Mads from our Enroute La Marmotte group asked us:
“What’s the obvious bike for a gran fondo like La Marmotte?”.
This custom styled Argon 18 Krypton GF is our answer.
With the Krypton GF, Mads will experience a light and fast endurance bike, weighting in at 7.8kg. A bike that’s comfortable for Mads to ride for +8 hours in the mountains and with great handling and braking capabilities on the descents, which is essential for him, since he is new to cycling in the mountains.
We upgraded the wheels to full carbon HED Vanquish 4 GP which gives him a superb riding experience – also on the windy Danish backroads.
For High Speeds and Steep Climbs
This road bike is obvious for both high speeds and steep climbs. A very versatile bike.
Built to be light, yet able to handle rugged roads – it’s engineered to be nimble, fast, and very reactive. This is the bike for those that want to get out there and ride their heart out on a high performance bike that doesn’t compromise on comfort.
With Clearance for More
We have mounted light and fast 25 mm Vittoria Corsa tires, that’s ideal for Gran Fondos, allowing Mads to tackle formidable climbs, vertiginous descents, and everything in between.
The fork has 32 mm of tire clearance, so you can also put on a pair of wider tires and head out for one hour of high pulse at the gravel roads.
Set up for Mountains
We have chosen to build the Krypton GF with Shimano’s Ultegra Di2 group set that is geared a 52/36 semi compact crank and a 11/28 cassette, which gives Mads plenty of gears for both outsprinting his cycling buddies on the road and for climbing Alpe d’Huez.
On the Krypton GF you’ll have plenty of braking power, which is giving you an optimal control of the bike at r rainy mountain descents. That’s thanks to the effective Ultegra disc brakes.
Vibration Damping Fork
The fork is designed around Argon 18’s Topological Compliance System (TCS). It features a slightly shaped bottom, that is designed to dampen the vibration from the ground. A feature that’s not that noticeable on the tarmac, but when you hit more uneven roads, you’ll really feel, that this fork does what it is intended to do. It provides a very smooth feel without sacrificing the handling of the bike.
If you’ve spent any time on a pure race bike, you know what it feels like to have every handlebar input transferred directly to your front wheel. The Krypton GF purposely avoids such touchiness in favor of stability.

Tested on Kysten
The speedy Krypton GF, dressed with race tires, has been tested at high speeds on Kysten. A +160km ride in Northern Zealand.
A mythical ride that has generated many stars and great results since forever. Not least offering a stunning scenery.
Tested in Flandern
Ronde van Vlaanderen is one of the biggest races on the World Tour calendar and also for keen recreational riders in the amateur edition. 139 km on bad asphalt and cobblestone pavés with an endless amount of steep hills. A race where only the strongest and the toughest riders reaches the finish line. Our ambassador, Stefan Djurhuus participated in the 2019 edition, testing the Argon 18 Krypton GF.
